After a failed attempt in November, which resulted in the engine starting up, but a massive leak from the coolant pipe that goes down the middle of the engine and the core plugs, the engine was pulled for the 2nd time. The repairs are now complete and the engine started last night and ran for about ~15 minutes. The engine has been rebuilt to OEM specification, with OEM piston rings and bearings. While the engine was out, everything from coolant bypass and PCV re-route has been done. New CHRAs for the turbos, oil lines, gasket kits, I simply replaced everything that I could get my hands on. I hope I can get a good 100,000 miles out of the engine. There are a few things that I still need to button down, such as installing the stock hardpipes for the fuel hoses, changing some of the connectors and it looks like I have a small leak from the passenger side oil feed line to the turbo. I need to fix some wiring also, since the previous owner did some ghetto rigging with the aftermarket alarm, boost controller and turbo timer. I have not driven it in the street yet, but it was still very exciting to see the engine fire up and run without issues, with full oil pressure and temperature. Big big thanks to Cliff and Dave who came out and helped out, without their help I would have not been able to get it done a 2nd time. Without Dave, the engine and transmission would have not been installed that fast, it took about 3 hours for both the transmission and engine to be installed. And without Cliff, well everything else was his handy work. I would've most likely thrown in the towel without their help. Also, thanks to Joe, another TT.net member for his help the first time around in November. Adding to the thank you list, Thanks TwinTurbo.net for being such valuable resource, without TT.net this would have not been possible. Thanks everone who answered my numerous questions, Bernie, Sppdracer, Kyle, Greg and Seb@SZ, Spongerider. I apologize if I left anyone else of the list. The project is far from being done, but starting the engine up and having it run was a big step forward. Hopefully in a week, when everything is buttoned down, the car registered and insured, I can drive it around and remember how awesome it is to drive a Z.
Buy Zama Posters Here I have nightmares about that happening...I'd be the poor bastard you'd hear about on the news that gets killed by a softball-size chunk while spreading out my body over the hood and screaming "Nooo!"
